One word, many forms
Swedish nouns change with number and definiteness. For "bil" the Swedish list contains bil, bilen, bilar, bilarna. The genitive forms bils and bilens are left out so that the list does not carry a second copy of almost every noun.
With every inflected form included, the list has 398,800 words, 9,543 of them with five letters.
Å, ä and ö
About 34% of the Swedish words contain å, ä or ö. In the tools they are ordinary letters: type them in a pattern, a rack or an anagram and they match themselves. "ä???e" finds ägare, ägige, äldre, äpple, ärade, ärvde.
If your keyboard lacks these letters, copy them from a word in the results. The Swedish list does not treat a and å as the same letter.
Compounds
Swedish builds long words by joining shorter ones. The lexicon behind the list records established compounds such as tallrik, stjärna and smörgås but not every compound a speaker could invent. A word that is perfectly good Swedish can still be missing.
For long words, try the wildcard search with a stem: "*bil*" lists compounds that contain bil.
Anagrams in Swedish
"karta" has these anagrams in the Swedish list: aktar, karat, karta, rakat. Some are rare or old forms, which is the price of a broad lexicon.
Because the list is wide, expect more unusual answers than in the English list, and check a surprising result before you rely on it.
Verbs and adjectives
Verbs have an infinitive, present, past, supine and imperative form, so one verb adds several entries. Adjectives change with gender, number and comparison, as in stor, stort, stora, större and störst. The list holds each form the lexicon records, which is why Swedish has so many more words than English at every length.
If you are solving a puzzle that wants a base form, look at the shortest match first. Inflected forms are usually longer, so a pattern with one ? for each letter of the answer fixes the length and leaves most of them out.
Typing å, ä and ö
On a Swedish keyboard the three letters have their own keys. On other layouts, hold the letter key on a phone or use the compose or alt-code feature on a computer. Copying the letter from a result also works, and it keeps the pattern exact.
